Hear ye, hear ye…listen up Facebook users!

It’s time to re-arrange your schedule for this Friday night June 12th, 2009.  It would be a really good idea to be at your computer, online, … ready to grab your “Real Name ” in what is likely to be the biggest Viral Land Rush in history!

Beginning at midnight ET…actually 12:01 AM Saturday morning… 9:01 PST, you will be able to register a ‘vanity url’ for your Facebook page. Instead of your page link being the monstrosity is now is.. something like - facebook.com/profile.php?id=987654321&ref=profile, it can be - facebook.com/jane.doe. Yeah!!

However…the catch is that these new vanity URLs are being bestowed on a first-come, first-served basis. Not so much of a big deal if your name is Herkimer Vasilaniturnmocker.  HOWEVER, if your name is something like Peter Smith, name variations will be snapped up quickly to be sure.

So here are the rules from of the Facebook blog:

• Usernames must be at least 5 characters long
• Usernames must be alphanumeric (a-z, 0-9) with the only exception being a period
• Usernames are permanent and non-transferable
• No obscenities allowed
• In order to prevent abuse, any new user profiles (created after 3 pm ET on June 9) won’t be immediately eligible (they’ll have to wait until June 28th)

Good idea on the last rule here, so folks aren’t picking up names with the motive to sell them later…

Registering Your Username

Login to your Facebook account, then go to http://www.facebook.com/username/ on or after Friday, June 12, 2009 at 9:01 Pacific Time [that's Saturday, June 13th, 2009 at 12:01am Eastern Time].

You will see a form that this:

Either choose the name Facebook suggests, or type your own in, then click the Set Username.

Get ready, get set….and good luck to the Facebook Servers, all….

To my great joy, I have just discovered there is only one real rule in life! Wow! Doesn’t that make you breathe a big sigh of relief?!? Well, let me tell you a little story I just came across…

Two prime ministers are sitting in a room discussing affairs of stale. Suddenly a man bursts in, apoplectic with fury, shouting and stamping and banging his fist on the desk.

The resident prime minister admonishes him: “Peter”, he says, “Kindly remember Rule Number 6,” whereupon Peter is instantly restored to complete calm, apologizes, and withdraws.

The politicians return to their conversation, only to be interrupted minutes later by an hysterical women gesticulating wildly, her hair flying.

Again, the intruder is greeted with the words: “Marie, please remember Rule Number 6.” Complete calm descends once more, and she too withdraws with a bow and apology.

When the scene is repeated for a third time, the visiting prime minister addresses his colleagues: “My dear friends, I’ve seen many things in my life, but never anything as remarkable as this. Would you be willing to share with me the secret of Rule Number 6?”

“Very simple,” replies the resident prime minister. “Rule Number 6 is… Don’t Take Yourself So Damn Seriously.” “Ah,” says his visitor. “that is a fine rule.”

How do I know it’s a proven Storytelling Blueprint?  Because it is a simplified outline of well-known mythologist Joseph Campbell’s the Hero’s Journey. These elements are a constant in all cultures, all religions, and people of all colors throughout time.

In just the past months, I have added many new terms to my lexicon. There is a whole Internet world out there that has its own ever evolving /emerging language, and quite entertaining turn of phrases.

Have you heard of being Twitter Whacked, Google Slapped? How about tribes, twhirl, tweetups, hash tags, twitpics, tweetdeck, friendorfollow…Lions and tigers and bears…Oh My!!

Let me tell you a little secret here. Shhhhh! Do you want to practice Just Be Who You Really Are Marketing? Then the one thing I have to say to you is – Twitter!

At first glance this site may seem a little silly and simple. Express yourself in 140 characters or less. Yeah right, this is an excellent way to spend my time!?!?

HOWEVER, open you mind, take another look. Set up a Twitter account , and do not participate, do not say a word. No tweeting at first. Just LISTEN.

After some time spent in this listening activity, you will likely see a Wondrous and Powerful Genie appear right before your very eyes.

Bingo…you got it…Social Networking, at a core level. Brand yourself, and Network with the biggest movers and shakers in the entire world, for FREE!

Heed this warning however…There are strategies and etiquette that must be employed to maximize your success in Twitterville. Tread lightly in the beginning.

Got a coach? How about a mentor (or several)?

Think of King Arthur’s round table. The King and his Mastermind Group. Yes, well I know that is not likely how His Majesty referred to them, but I am pretty certain that is what it was.

Envision, if you will, all the best minds of the realm, flanking the entirety of the grand circle styled table.. facing one another..all brainpower directed toward a good and common goal..a place called Camelot!

At my table sits Seth Godin, Mari Smith, Alex Jeffreys, Wayne Dyer, Ellie Drake, Leonardo da Vinci, Napoleon Hill, Michelangelo Buonarroti, Eleanor of Aquitaine, Maya Angelou, Maria Andros, Snow White, Socrates, Queen Elizabeth #1, Amy Huentelman, and Jack Canfield - just to name a few. Pretty good, uh? By-the-by, there are some folks listed here that don’t have a clue who I am. But it matters not…they are among the circle that has influenced me to become inspiration in action, and create my own Camelot. (Wouldn’t it be great fun to get this group together at Starbucks?)

So alas…out defending the castle, AND slaying dragons on your own, are we??? It’s a little more than difficult to man the catapults, push the siege tower to the gates of Castle Success, pour cauldrons of boiling oil on assailants, all on your own…OK, I’ll slow down with the dramatic effects now. I am getting to a point here.

You may fancy yourself as a King Arthur in your character, mind and spirit - aspiring to great things. But, it matters not, unless you are supported by an arsenal of great knights, and grand ladies (living in this life, or not-so-much). You cannot create and/or rule a kingdom without a ”Special Forces” support team.

So sally forth.. put together the great coaches, and mentors, that will sit at your round table!

HEED THIS DECLARATION: Be a coach, be a mentor, but be very certain to surround yourself with the same.

Yeah, me either! Alex Jeffreys is one of my mentors, and stated in a recent coaching call that he is not a linear thinker.

Be it for better or worse, neither of us, and many very successful Internet marketing entrepreneurs, do not think in a linear, A to Z, manner. 

I refer to myself as an “UNPACKAGEABLE SPIRIT”, a person who will never be fulfilled or satisfied by doing just one thing for the rest of my life. I thrive on an array of evolving interests, and have an insatiable sense of wonder. My style of thinking does not follow a “linear” process. Thoughts and ideas descend on me like a meteor shower, or sometimes like a hail of bullets from an action movie, coming at me in all different directions at once.

This type if thinking is not that unusual, but not often embraced in culture today since the advent of the Industrial Revolution. (But more on that later in an upcoming blog post.)

In my life, I have been a Butcher, Baker, and Candlestick Maker – well so to speak. One life…many passions!

At this time, I now mentor and coach other “UNPACKAGEABLE SPIRITS” in achieving mental clarity, blending the facets that make them unique, and assisting to manage their diverse interests.

In addition to coaching, I am an Internet Marketing Strategist! So hear ye, hear ye! Listen up!  If you wish to recession proof your life, and be an Internet Rock Star, this is the first time in the entire history of mankind to do so. You can make your own way in life. You can flourish, from virtually anywhere, if you have a computer, the right mindset, and determination.  It is not fast, and not easy.  But it is great fun, and hugely satisfying!  You will encounter people from all over the world.  You can now set up you own Global Tribe of like-minded individuals, some who will become your steadfast friends.  People you would never meet otherwise. WOW! Is this the best life, or what?

So HOORAY for those of us who do not think straight!!

Yeah, me too!!  So how about all three?  A Wealthy… Internet… ROCK STAR!!

I have great news for all of us on this subject. 

It doesn’t matter that we do not have mastery of the guitar, drums or keyboard, have a woeful voice, and we do/or do not have a place that we go everyday – referred to in most circles as a day job.

Our world is changing, and along with it, the new frontier if Internet Marketing - still in its infancy. The opportunity to lead, to build a Global Tribe of followers, in now a reality to anyone who chooses.

The key to great successes in my life, and all successful people, is having mentors. I have had several in the past years. Topping that roll, Dr. Ellie Drake has been my personal coach. 

Newest to the list, my most recent mentor is known in the Internet marketing business as one of the industry’s newest ROCKSTARS, Alex Jeffreys.  (Go ahead – Google him.)  Alex is now coaching a group of Internet entrepreneurs to follow in his footsteps, sharing the wisdom and knowledge he has gained in two short years.
